Golfing for a Cause-Tim Tebow Foundation Tournament A Success

The Tim Tebow Foundation held its sixth annual Celebrity Golf Classic tournament Saturday at TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Verda Beach, Florida.

A wide variety of celebrities took part in the event, including Chris DiMarco, Billy Horschel, and Zach Johnson. Heisman Trophy winners Marcus Allen, Archie Griffin and Danny Wuerffel were also in attendance. Yet the event wasn’t limited to athletes, as music artists The Band Perry, Javier Colon, and Kristy Lee Cook, and TV stars like Ashely Greene, Anthony Mackie, and Ashley Benson also set aside time to golf for a good cause.

The Tim Tebow Foundation aims to bring Faith, Hope, and Love to make dreams come true for children with life threatening illnesses. The Foundation builds playrooms in children’s hospitals, provides life changing surgeries to children in the Philippines through the Tebow CURE Hospital and sponsors “Night to Shine” (a nationwide prom for people with special needs, and providing care for orphans in four countries and adoption aid grants for families.)

Tebow, former University of Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, could just be known for how he plays on the football field or for a career as an SEC Network football analyst. Instead, he invests his heart, soul, and money into his foundation that benefits so many lives. With this golf tournament, more children will know that they are loved.

15 year old Andrew Motley is an aspiring Florida Gator football player who has cerebral palsy, a congenital disorder of movement and muscle tone. Motley draws inspiration from Tebow to dream big and work hard.  Tebow told Motley that he the potential to be a quarterback and also a minister.  Motely said he hopes to win a national championship for the Gators just like Tim! 

Another former University of Florida quarterback and Heisman Winner, Danny Wuerffel, said he enjoyed playing golf with his friend Tim Tebow but he really came to support the kids by donating to the Tebow Foundation. Wuerffel said “it is not about the fun, its about the good feeling knowing you are participating in a event that is bigger than yourself.” Wuerffel says he will always support Tim and his proud to be his friend.

Tim Tebow said he couldn’t be more proud of the outcome of this event. The Celebrity Gala on Friday raised nearly $1 million, not including the money raised at the golf tournament. Tebow is so thankful for the hundreds of volunteers that came out to make this event happen. The Band Perry decided to forego a night on tour to perform at the Gala. And Gary Sheffield, a retired MLB outfielder, auctioned off his mansion in the Bahamas.

Tebow says everyone to help people around them in order to make a difference.
