Several Local Girls’ High School Basketball Teams Are In Action Tonight

We are quickly approaching the end of the college basketball season and that could only mean one thing: March Madness. There is still several weeks until the Big Dance, but there’s multiple girls’ high school basketball teams in playoff action tonight to treat the itch of postseason basketball.

All games start at 7:00 p.m.

Gainesville High will be traveling to Pointe Vedra Nease in the Regional Semifinal in Class 6-A. The Hurricanes are seeking a third regional final berth in five years. They would have to go through Nease’s Sydney Searcy, who is a UF signee averaging 19.6 points per game.

Gainesville High head coach David Gordon talked about what they worked on in practice in preparation for this game.

Staying in that same area, Ponte Vedra High School will be hosting Santa Fe in the Regional Semifinal in Class 5-A. The Santa Fe Raiders haven’t reach the regional final since 2002. It is not going to be easy as Ponte Vedra is on a five game winning streak.

Going down to Class 4-A, Jacksonville Bolles travels to Bradford for the Regional Semifinal. Bolles has never reached a regional final in school history. Bradford is coming off a huge upset over Fernandina Beach, snapping their 20-game win streak.

Now back to Gainesville, PK Yonge hosts Orlando First Academy in the Regional Semifinal in Class 3-A. These teams met earlier in the year with PK Yonge taking the game 58-49 over First Academy. The Blue Wave have embodied consistent success in high school basketball, as this is the 11th straight season they have reached at least the regional semifinal.

PK Yonge head coach Willie Powers discussed the advantages of playing this team earlier in the year.

Last but certainly not least, Wildwood travels to Trenton for the Regional Final in Class 1-A. Trenton could clinch their first state tournament birth since 1981 with a win. Wildwood looks to get back to the State Championship Game after losing Freeport in the title game last year.

Trenton head coach Bryant Frye wants his team to stick to what they do best.

Again, all games get going at 7:00 p.m.
