Former Gator Baseball Coach McMahon Now Working with Yankees

Pat McMahon served as the head coach of the Florida Gator baseball team from 2002 to 2007. During his time as head coach, McMahon led the Gators to the College World Series during the 2005 season and compiled a 231-143-1 record, before being fired in 2007 after the team missed the NCAA Regionals two years in a row.

Now McMahon works with the New York Yankees as their Director of International Player Development. As part of his duties, McMahon visits with the Yankees’ affiliates during the season and spends time with each one. He also spends time in Latin America at the Yankees’ academy that is located just outside of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The MLB has experienced an influx of talent from Latin America in recent years and McMahon says the region is a hotbed for talent in professional baseball. McMahon says more and more baseball clubs are investing in Latin America and the Yankees are no exception. The Yankees’ Latin American academy houses players that hope to be signed by one of the Yankees’ affiliates, and McMahon says the players face a lot of pressure to succeed.

For McMahon, the coming weeks will be very busy. He will soon be helping to coordinate the Latin American program for the Yankees, and then he will be attending major league camp. After the big league camp, McMahon will be involved in teaching at the minor league camp, and then after that, he will be traveling between Latin America and the Yankees’ different minor league clubs once the season starts.

McMahon says the coming year will be a long year, but he is fortunate to be a part of the New York Yankees.
