Gator Volleyball Falls Short of Final Four Against Texas

The Florida volleyball team came into a tough Elite Eight matchup Saturday night against the #3 seed Texas. In the first set the Gators won 25-22. The next two sets the Longhorns would take advantage winning those 25-22 and 25-19. The Gators bit back to take the fourth set 25-20 but the fifth set rallied back and forth and the Longhorns were able to capitalize winning 17-15.  Texas advances to the Final Four while the season ends for the Gators.

For Texas, Molly McCage and Chiaka Ogbogu had a big night. McCage tallied 13 kills and led the Longhorns with a .591 hitting percentage. Ogbogu had 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage.

Key players for Florida:

• Rhamat Alhassan: 19 kills, .359 hit %, 7 blocks
• Mackenzie Dagostino: .375 hit % and 54 assists
• Alex Holston: 13 kills
• Ziva Recek: 11 kills and 13 digs
• Carli Snyer: 13 kills and 15 digs

The Gator season comes to a hard fought end and Florida says goodbye to an outstanding group of seniors: Simone Antwi, Mackenzie Dagostino, Gabby Mallette, Nikki O’Rourke, and Ziva Recek.

Texas advances to face Minnesota in the Final Four on Thursday in Omaha.
