The Gator volleyball team won its third SEC match in a row after taking down the Tennessee Volunteers Wednesday in three sets 25-19, 25-11, 25-23.
The Gators are now 4-3 in conference play and 12-4 overall. Florida associate head coach Dave Boos says the Vols are a good team, but the Gators were able to fight back with limited errors.
“They’re a very consistent team. For us tonight it was all about error control and we talked about that during the match and obviously in the second set that’s the best you can possibly do having no hitting errors for that set,” Boos said.
Along with no hitting errors, Florida totaled 20 kills in the second set. Boos says the Gators worked together for the win.
“Pretty even numbers for us; everyone got involved. They’re a very good, disciplined, defensive team. They’re going to make you have to work for kills….everyone did their part tonight.”
In those numbers, Florida ended the match with 50 kills with middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan having the match high of 13. The Gator defense had 47 digs on the night with libero Nikki O’Rourke totaling 14 (her eighth straight game with double-digit digs). Boos says teamwork is what it took to stay solid in the back row.
“We got a report about what their tendencies were and we did some really nice stuff against them and that’s a big credit to the whole group. It wasn’t one person only it was the whole group; to hold them to an .095 hitting percentage with 47 digs.”
Florida’s next match will be on the road in Lexington this Sunday to take on Kentucky. That match will begin at 1:00 PM and live coverage starts here at 12:50 PM.
