One inning later it was another Gator freshman who delivered arguably the biggest hit for Florida this season. With no outs in the ninth Mike Rivera launched a solo shot over the left field fence giving the Gators a 2-1 lead and reliever Taylor Lewis retired the Tigers in order in the ninth to preserve the win. Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan was proud of his team’s performance. “It was a heck of a ballgame, we battled all the way until the end. Kevin O’Sullivan knew that LSU was going to be a tough team to knock off. “There is a reason why they’re the number one team in the country. It was a great ballgame all the way around by both clubs.” For seven innings of the game Florida’s pitchers were dueling off against LSU’s Alex Lange who was dominant. Lange held the Gators to no runs alongside eight strikeouts. Florida now will take on SEC East opponent Vanderbilt in the championship game Sunday afternoon.
