Jacksonville Jaguars Crushed by Colts, Bortles Makes Debut

The Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3) continued their trend of getting blown out in a 44-17 loss to their division rival Indianapolis Colts (1-2).

After holding a 17-point lead against the Philadelphia Eagles in the opening game of the season, the Jaguars have been outscored 119-27 through the last two and a half games.

Jacksonville starting quarterback Chad Henne struggled again, going 4 of 7 for 33 yards and failed to get the Jaguars on the board.

At halftime, head coach Gus Bradley made the switch to 2014 third overall draft pick  Blake Bortles.

He then announced in the postgame press conference that Bortles would go into the game against San Diego as the starter.

Bradley talked about how Henne responded to the switch.

“It was a challenging situation, but how he handled it, I can’t tell you how much respect and admiration I have for him as a person how he’s handled this,” Bradley said. “Truly top notch.”

The Jaguars showed more life with Bortles at quarterback. He went 14 of 24 for 223yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions.  But he wasn’t all that impressed with his first NFL regular season action.

“It was average. I thought there was some good stuff and some bad stuff; there’s things to correct and work better at. I thought it was super average. You can’t throw two picks in a half. That shouldn’t happen.”

Although Bortles wasn’t satisfied, all Gus Bradley wants to see from Bortles is consistent improvement.

“The challenge for us with him is just keep getting better. Just keep getting better.”

The Jaguars will look to pick up their first win of the season on Sunday when they travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers. Kickoff is set for 4:05.
