The Florida Gators baseball team is now 24-6 and have extended their losing streak to three games after falling 7-6 to the LSU Tigers in the series opener Thursday night.
The Tigers took an early lead in the first, but the Gators managed to battle it out and make it a scary ninth-inning for LSU. The Gators had their chance to capitalize on the many errors LSU was making and tie the game, but botched the opportunity with a big mistake of their own. Gators head coach Kevin O’Sullivan says that they just need to move on.
The Gators had been looking to recover from a rough road-trip ending. They earned their first series loss of the season last weekend at Ole Miss, then completed the road-trip with a 10-5 loss at North Florida.
Although the Gators are struggling lately, freshman first-baseman Taylor Gushue says this is nothing to panic about, but it is something they need to get through together.
Florida has another chance Friday night to prove this slump isn’t a permanent issue. Sophomore righty Jonathon Crawford (2-1, 5.28) will be starting for the Gators in the second game of the series, while another sophomore righty, Kevin Gausman (5-0, 2.27), will take the mound for LSU.
