Notre Dame, Baylor To Meet In Women’s NCAA Final

After two Final Four matchups that featured all the number one seeds Sunday night, Notre Dame will face Baylor in the women’s NCAA final on Tuesday night. The Fighting Irish downed UConn in overtime, while Baylor defeated the Stanford Cardinal.

Notre Dame reaches its second consecutive final after beating Geno Auriemma and his Huskies in overtime 83-75,, marking the second year in a row UConn has lost in a semifinal.

The Baylor Bears, the favorite to take it all, takes down Nnemkadi Ogwumike and the Cardinal despite a quiet night by Baylor’s 6’8″ center Brittany Griner. Aware of the inside presence of Griner some consider unbreakable, Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer loaded up the inside to limit the center’s influence. With Griner ending the night with only 13 points and 9 rebounds, Baylor proved their depth by leaning on their outside shooters.

Now Notre Dame will meet up with Baylor Tuesday night in Denver for another chance at the title which eluded them a year ago, while Baylor goes for a perfect 40-0 season. Tune into WRUF Sports Radio 850 for all the action Tuesday night right after Gators baseball.
