Florida football has been struck by the injury bug yet again. Redshirt freshman Jeremi Powell tore his ACL during a special teams play in last week's loss to Missouri and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Head coach Will Muschamp spoke about Powell during Wednesday's press conference.
“Jeremi Powell did tear his ACL on the punt block there. It was non-contact, it was a plant and got caught in the turf,” Muschamp said.
Powell is the latest in a long line of Gator injuries. He is the eighth player Florida has lost for the season. Andre Debose, Matt Rolin, Chaz Green, Nick Washington, Jeff Driskel, Dominique Easley and Matt Jones have also suffered season-ending injuries. In addition, 16 players have missed snaps due to various injuries and sicknesses.
“So unfortunate for him (Powell). He was a guy that was really emerging special teams-wise, did a great job on kickoff for us and special teams. [He] was really playing well, so, disappointed for him,” said Muschamp.
Florida is currently on a bye week and will face Georgia at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in Jacksonville.
