The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up their 3rd win of the season after defeating the New York Jets 31-12 at home.
Big-Game Bortles
Blake Bortles was on full display against the Jets this Sunday. Bortles completed 29 of 38 passes for 388 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against a Jets defense that had looked surprisingly stout going into this match-up. He finished with a passer rating of 114.8, his highest total of the season. Bortles also tacked on 28 rushing yards, making this the second game of the season he has finished with 400 total yards.

Bortles has looked fairly strong for the Jaguars so far especially considering Leonard Fournette’s lack of availability this season. He’s on pace to throw for over 4,300 yards, which would be the second highest of his career. When asked about the win, Bortles gave credit to his teammates, specifically his wide receivers and his offensive line after the win.
Bortles also expressed that it “felt good to help the defense” with the Jags’ offensive success.
Business as Usual
For the Jacksonville defense, a match-up with the Jets ended with a familiar result. Jacksonville held New York to just 12 points and 178 total yards. The Jets were held scoreless for more than half the game and didn’t put up their first points until 4:58 remaining in the third quarter. The Jags also had 3 sacks, increasing their total to 10 on the season. Jacksonville is only giving up a league-leading 14 points a game this season.

Cleaning Up the Play
While the Jaguars are 3-1 and looked good this week, there are plenty of improvements they can make. Jacksonville had 3 turnovers this week. This is the third game so far this season that the Jaguars have had more turnovers than their opponents. In addition, Jacksonville was penalized 9 times for 89 yards. The Jaguars need to tighten up their play going forward. Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said he was happy to get the win, but his team can’t continue turning the ball over and collecting penalties.
