Florida Gators Defensive Line Adjusting to New System

The Florida Gators defense struggled to compete last season, having their worst showing in years. Head coach Dan Mullen and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham are bringing a new defensive system to the table, resulting in a few adjustments for some of the members of the defense.

Jefferson

Due to the change in system to a 3-4 scheme, Grantham is asking for some of his guys, such as CeCe Jefferson, to make changes to his game. Grantham believes that Jefferson’s attributes are more adept for an end-of-the-line position. This means that he will be responsible for a bit of coverage, but not as much as some of the other backers. Despite the changes, Grantham believes that Jefferson will thrive with the new system and adjust to a more natural position for the future of his development.

Grantham has praised Jefferson for his willingness to adjust his game. He complimented him on his hard work and dedication and has noticed his love for the game.

Slaton

Grantham addressed Tedarrell Slaton, a young member of the defensive unit. Grantham is excited to develop him and bring him into the new system.

Grantham believes that Slaton can be a valuable asset for the Gators for the future, as he can play multiple positions in the defense. He is looking to bring Slaton into the rotation this year.

Shuler II

Adam Shuler II is another guy who can play several positions in the defense, including defensive end and tackle. Grantham says that Shuler needs to learn the system. Once he does that, he is going to look to get a rotation built.

Season Expectations

In a rotational period, some facets of the Gator football team are struggling. For example, Mullen has identified the quarterback as a potentially problematic area for the team.

With the defense completely changing systems, the Gators might struggle in the beginning to adjust. However, the returning defensive members are open to the changes and will be ready to perform this year.
