SEC Hoops Preview: Georgia Hosts No.18 Tennessee

The Bulldogs are rolling high after they snatched up a big overtime win on the court against rival Florida. However, will the momentum be enough when they host No.18 Tennessee on Saturday? Tennessee is a 72.5% favorite over Georgia according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index. The Bulldogs have a 14-11 record and 5-8 in conference record. Meanwhile, the Vols have a 19-6 record and 9-4 in conference record.

Georgia

The Dawgs are averaging 69 points per game with 67 points allowed. Georgia has gone 2-6 in their last eight games with those two wins both over the Gators, including last Wednesday’s OT 72-69 win.

Georgia’s senior forward,  Yante Maten, led the way scoring 23 points. Maten even scoured a crucial 3-pointer to move the game into overtime.

Maten is clearing leading the team statistically wise. Maten averages 20 points per game and has put up 160 points this season. The second leading scourer is Derek Ogbeide, with only 81 points.

Tennessee

Tennessee is coming into the game off a 70-67 win over South Carolina. Grant Williams played amazing for the Vols, as he put up 22 points, went 7/10 in field goals and 8/9 for free throws.

For Tennessee to be successful they will need not only Williams, but junior forward Admiral Schofield to bring their “A” game Saturday. Schofield averages 12 points per game and has put up 111 points this season.

The Vols are averaging 76 points per game with 67 points allowed.
