Chiozza Questionable for Wednesday’s Game Against Mississippi State

Florida Gators starting point guard Chris Chiozza is questionable for Wednesday’s game against Mississippi State after being diagnosed with strep throat. Chiozza has been ruled out of practice on Tuesday and the team is hopeful he will be able to suit up on Wednesday at home.

Chiozza’s Impact

The senior court general has done it all for the Gators this season. He is averaging 13.1 points, 5.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game.

Chiozza is fresh off a game-winning steal and layup against Missouri on Saturday. The Tigers had a chance to take the final shot with the game tied at 75 apiece, but Chiozza cut off the passing lane and intercepted the ball with just enough time to finish at the other end.

Head coach Mike White described his thoughts during that eventful final play in Columbia.

White went on to discuss some of the unique aspects of Chiozza’s game that make him thrive when it matters most.

Chiozza has now produced double-digit scoring in seven straight games and is the heart and soul of this Gator squad. He has led the Gators to an 11-4 record thus far, including a perfect 3-0 in SEC play.

If he’s unable to play, expect KeVaughn Allen to slide into the starting point guard slot. Jalen Hudson would likely be inserted into the starting lineup. Mike Okauru would also receive quality minutes if Chiozza is sidelined. The Bulldogs are 13-2 on the season after losing to Ole Miss by six on Saturday.
