Florida softball team taking on USF tonight

The No. 3/4 Florida Gator softball team (38-4, 12-3 SEC) is hosting USF (32-11, 10-1 Big East) Wednesday night. The Gators will be looking for a win after having a 12-game winning streak snapped last weekend.

The Gators fell to Mississippi State 6-5, despite hitting their third grand slam of the weekend. Junior pitcher Hannah Rogers (22-3, 1.31 ERA), who tossed her first career no-hitter Friday, had a difficult game against the Bulldogs. She gave up five runs on seven hits in the top of the second inning. With 22 wins, Rogers ranks fourth in the NCAA and she’s 12th in shutouts.

Wednesday’s game will be the second time the Gators take on the USF Bulls this season. The Gators faced off against the Bulls on February 27 in Tampa, and they came out with a 3-1 victory after sophomore Lauren Haeger’s two-run walk-off homer.

Florida will be looking to end the Bulls’ nine-game winning streak, and the Gators will have to watch out for Kourtney Salvarola, who is one of three Bulls hitting over .300. She’s batting .368 with eight doubles, 12 homers and a team-best 34 RBI.

After USF, the Gators will travel to Kentucky for a three-game SEC series on April 12 to the 14.

The first pitch between the Gators and Bulls is set for 6 p.m. at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
