Gators Football: Coach McElwain addresses death threats

Florida Gators head football Coach Jim McElwain understands that fans of the team are upset with the team’s 3-3 record.

However, McElwain addressed how the negativity surrounding the team has gotten out of hand. Harsh and angry comments on social media are everywhere. Additionally, death threats are being brought against the players and families.

While the Gators have lost their past two games, the recent play shouldn’t warrant this extreme of a reaction.

Why the frustration?

The fourth quarter has been the Gators weakness this season. Almost all of their games have come down to the wire.

McElwain noted that the team just needs to stay focused and not panic.

Being able to play for the victory when the game is back and forth is something he wants his young team to learn.

Injury Update

The week off has given many injured Florida players the opportunity to rest and rehab. While Coach McElwain announced no major breaking injury updates, he did say that the team would know more as the week goes on.

One development is that Josh Hammond is questionable with a back injury.

Wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland will be limited this week and Kadarius Toney’s status should be known by Wednesday.

Florida Georgia

McElwain and the team hope to turn the season around against Georgia. With both teams coming off of a bye week, the Gators have had plenty of time to prepare for the rivalry.

The game, played in Jacksonville, is always a season highlight for both teams. The atmosphere is something that is electric and special.

McElwain added that the strong fan support from both sides make it a great place to play.

The game will kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
