College Football Preview: Georgia Visits Vanderbilt

The Vanderbilt Commodores will face the Georgia Bulldogs in an SEC battle from Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday.

Bulldogs on the rise

Georgia is top ten team in the nation with a rank of number 8. They have a 5-0 overall record and are 2-0 in the SEC. Georgia’s last game was against Tennessee and the Bulldogs crushed the Vols with a whopping final score of 41-0.

There is some speculation of who will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Freshman Jake Fromm may continue to lead the Bulldogs on their hot streak. The other option is Jacob Eason, who was last year’s starter but was replaced by Fromm earlier in the season due to an injury. It has been rumored that Eason is getting close to 100% strength again, which may knock Fromm out of his starting position against the Commodores.

Vanderbilt looks to avoid three-game skid

On the other hand, Vanderbilt has a 3-2 overall record and is 0-2 in the SEC with losses against Florida and Alabama. The final score against Alabama was 59-0, a huge defeat. Vanderbilt running back Ralph Webb has experienced an increase in defensive pressure from opposing teams this year, decreasing his stats. We’ll see if Webb can still run how he used to last season against Georgia.

Vanderbilt/Georgia History

It seems pretty likely that the Bulldogs will take the lead on this upcoming game, but just last season, Vanderbilt beat Georgia 17-16. The Commodores shocked football fans last season with an upset as Zach Cunningham, All-American linebacker, corralled wide receiver Isiah Mckenzie on fourth-and-one in the games fleeting minutes to keep the one point lead.

Although both Mckenzie and Cunningham have moved on the the NFL, Kyle Shurmur is ready to face Georgia again as Vanderbilt’s quarterback.

Game Time

Kickoff will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th.
