Gators Men’s Hoops Rallies To Beat Alabama At Home

The Florida Gator men’s basketball team (23-5, 13-3 SEC) was able to stay undefeated at home by beating the Alabama Crimson Tide (19-10, 11-5 SEC) Saturday 64-52.  The win clinches a least of share of the SEC regular season title for Florida.

The Gators started off slow and were down by 12 points early in the second half. Florida head coach Billy Donovan says that there were a lot of factors to the dreadful start.

With help from the home crowd, the Gators were able to pick up some momentum in the second half when they went on a 19-2 run with under three minutes left in the game. Gator center Patric Young said the team knew it had to step up with the SEC number one seed on the line.

While the Gators were looking forward to getting back Will Yeguete and Michael Frazier II, it was Casey Prather that provided the quality minutes that led to the win. Coach Donovan says that for some reason Prather was able to avoid all the distractions that came with the game.

The loss could damage Alabama’s hopes of making the NCAA Tournament.   SEC bubble teams Kentucky, Tennessee and Ole Miss all also lost as well.

With the Gators sweeping away the Tide, they look forward to playing at home against Vanderbilt (12-15, 6-9 SEC) on Wednesday in their last home game of the season; you can catch the game live on Country 103-7 The Gator starting at 7:25 pm.
