Florida Women’s Basketball: The Final Countdown

With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Florida women’s basketball team (16-12, 5-9 SEC) will host Arkansas (17-10, 5-9 SEC) tonight for its final home game of the season. The Orange and Blue are coming off a hard-fought victory over Alabama, and it looks to ride the wave of confidence and momentum into this evening’s matchup. Gator head coach Amanda Butler said that while this game is meaningful on several levels, her team needs to stay focused.

Coach Butler is of course talking about lone senior Jennifer George, who will be recognized in a ceremony after the game for her solid career in Orange and Blue. Butler said her program has a lot to thank George for and she hopes tonight is special for No. 32.

While this could be an emotional night for the Gators, they do realize how much work is left to do before the SEC Tournament. Freshman guard January Miller said the Razorbacks are similar to her team and they need to be ready to handle anything Arkansas may throw their way.

Fellow guard Jaterra Bonds is also aware of the power the Razorbacks possess. She said that Arkansas is a strong team offensively, so the Gators will have to be disciplined on defense if they want to get stops and force turnovers.

Bonds also knows how critical it is to finish the regular season on a high note, and said that coming out victorious in both tonight and Sunday at South Carolina would be huge confidence boosters for this Gator squad.

Tip off this evening is set for 7 p.m. in the O’Connell Center.
