Saints Softball FCSAA Tournament Bound

The Rundown

The Santa Fe College Saints softball team is headed to the FCSAA Tournament where they will need to keep their consistent bats going and step up their defense. The Saints have made it through the regular season with a 32-21 record. They had a 14-10 in conference record and found themselves fourth in their FCSAA division. Going into the tournament, they are coming off a two game series loss to the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.

FCSAA Tournament

The first game of the FCSAA Tournament for the Saints will be against Indian River State College at Historic Dodgertown on Friday. Santa Fe head coach Chris Ahern says playing against Indian River State College has always been a tough one and the game on Friday should be no different.

The tournament features 16 teams in a double elimination format; no matter the outcome against Indian River State College the Saints will play again Friday night.  Two teams from this tournament will qualify for the National Junior College Softball Tournament to be held in May in Utah.

Team Stats

The Saints played 53 games this season and while the numbers were not eye popping, they were consistent.  They managed to score 264 runs and hit 23 home runs. The team is hitting .322, has an on base percentage of .396 and a slugging percentage of .448.

While the offense has been solid, coach Ahern made a note that her team needed to play more aggressively and consistently on defense as they committed 88 errors in 53 games played.

Ahern mentioned that pitcher Autumn Green is someone she can rely on and will look to her if the team gets in a jam. Green has appeared in 26 games this year. She has 68 strikeouts and an earned run average of 2.31.

Another player to keep an eye out for is sophomore first baseman Shailynn Morales who in the previous week, was named FCSAA Player of the Week. She has an amazing slugging percentage of .595. Morales has 47 RBI’s and she has 61 hits, 11 of which are doubles.

Game Time

The first pitch in the first game of the FCSAA Tournament against Indian River State College at Historic Dodgertown is set for 1:30 PM on Friday.
