Gator Baseball Blanks Gamecocks in Series Opener

On a gorgeous night at McKethan Stadium in Gainesville, fans saw a gorgeous pitching duel that was won by Florida 1-0 over South Carolina in the opener of a three game series.  Two of the best starters in the SEC appeared in this game as Florida’s Alex Faedo and Carolina’s Clark Schmidt started strong, with each pitcher not allowing a run through four innings. Schmidt had to leave the game in the sixth inning after allowing a run while Faedo pitched 8.2 scoreless, striking out nine while only allowing three hits.  Michael Byrne came in the game for the final at bat to pick up his seventh save of the season.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning as Christian Hicks hit a two out double, followed by a single from Keenan Bell to bring home Hicks.

Faedo Thursdays?

Faedo was very sharp Thursday, coming off a game against Vanderbilt in which he didn’t pitch badly, giving up only two earned runs, but it was not a dominating performance as he had Thursday against Carolina.  He threw a career high 125 pitches on the night as well.  Below is the link for Faedo’s post game press conference.

Up next, Brady Singer will be on the mound for the Gators on Friday night; first pitch from the Mac is set for 7pm.
